Note: Thoughts in < > *** Chapter 4 A long pause hung over the now quiet hallway of Sunnydale High as both Willow and Tara stared wide eyed at each other, taking in the sight before them. It was Willow who first broke the silence, taking a step forward hesitantly, she bent down slowly, Here, let me help you with it N-n-no, its o-ok <Stop stuttering Tara, you dork. Youre gonna scare her off!> I-I mean, I can handle i-it. No, its alright, let me help. My bad, I wasnt watching where I was going. Willow offered sincerely. Raising her head momentarily, Tara gave Willow a half smile, O-ok. Thanks. <She smiled! She smiled at me again. Did anybody see that? Did anybody see that gorgeous smile? The world should see that. Its beautiful!> Lips stretching into a full blown grin, Willow balanced herself on her heels while helping Tara pick up the scattered papers, arranging them neatly, Willow stood up just as Tara finished collecting the fallen books from the ground. Smiling, Here you go, almost as though the crash never happened. Dipping her head shyly, Tara smiled sweetly as she took the pile of papers from Willow, T-thanks urm Willow. Willow Rosenberg. Giving yet again another smile that made Willows heart skip a beat, Thanks Willow. Stretching out her free hand to Willow, Tara introduced herself, Tara. Tara Maclay. Eagerly reaching out to grasp Taras hand, Willow drew in a sharp breath as she felt her senses come alive, almost as though a jolt of electricity had passed through her and Tara. <Goddess, I wonder if she felt that too? So strong, so firm yet so soothing and reassuring.> Tara felt her heart race as she and Willow shook hands, feeling the tender warmth emanating from Willows palm. <Its almost like a perfect fit Wait wait, what am I gonna say now? Do I talk to her? Do I bring up the night at the Bronze? Do I just say see you around? God I wish Faith was here now! She would probably have had Willow kissing her by now if she was in my situation. Wait a minute Why in the world am I thinking about Faith right now? Tara you idiot! Say something! Say Say anything!> Reluctantly letting go of the redheads hand, Tara said softly, So urm I guess Ill see you around Willow? Feeling Taras hand fall away from hers, Willow was already missing the warm touch of their hands and the tingling sensation it created in her. Pulled out of her thoughts by Taras voice, Willows heart dropped a little, realizing that their sudden meeting had come to an end, yet choosing not to show her disappointment, Willow plastered a smile on her face, Sure Tara, maybe at the Bronze or something? Seeing Tara nod and smile in response, Willow felt a little flicker of hope deep within her. <Maybe Ill still get to see her one of these days I hope this is not the end, maybe I should say something? Yes? No? Yes? No? What Willow what?!> Picking up her briefcase and gripping it tightly in her hands, Willow opened her mouth after a slight hesitation, only to say the three words see you around before waving goodbye and turning to walk out of the main door. Turning to head off to her own office, Tara slumped her shoulders in defeat. <Great, you finally get to meet her and you screwed it up. Dork. Did she feel the way I did when our hands touched? Even if she did, Im never going to find out. Why? Because Tara Maclay the dork has once again surfaced. When are you ever going to learn Tara? You could have said something, done something, anything to make her stay a little longer, but no, you just had to be the coward youve always been and now shes slipping away. Great, dork, what a dork> Little did Tara know, barely more than a few meters away, at Sunnydale Highs carpark, Willow was fumbling around her briefcase, searching for her car keys as she cursed herself repeatedly and exasperatedly, You idiot, you idiot, you idiot. Everyone at work knew, if there was anyone who could get the job done in double quick time or push the limits of ones capabilities, it will definitely be Willow. But recently, what used to be double quick time is now triple quick, and Willow was working herself so hard that the weariness was starting to show in her face. Willow is an excellent worker of Toms and he had always regarded her as his right-hand man, or rather woman, but work aside, Tom has also always regarded Willow as a good friend of his. Firmly deciding that something had to be done, he called Willow into his office that very day. Hey Tom Willow smiled wearily as she sat down in front of him, Whats up? I should be asking you that young lady. Tom replied good-naturedly. Raising her eyebrows in question, What do you mean? I mean, you have been looking awfully tired recently and you have not stopped working constantly for the past few days. I swear Im not gonna have enough work for you soon enough. So, tell me Willow, whats up? Letting out a soft chuckle, Willow said, Nothing ever gets past good ol Tom eh? Laughing out loud, Tom replied, Well, not nothing. Maybe just you. Weve become such good friends over the years Willow, youve helped me through my problems with Gina and weve grown to know each other so well. Smiling appreciatively at Tom, Youre a sweetheart Tom, always have been. Pausing for a moment before letting out a soft sigh, Willow continued, Remember you sent me to Sunnydale High a couple of days back? Well I bumped into this woman whom Ive seen before in the Bronze. And may I add, whom I happened to really like. We sorta introduced ourselves, but didnt get any further. I was such a geek Tom, I didnt even move to ask more about her or try and arrange to meet up again. Its really bugging me Tom, I just I just really want to see her again Willow trailed off quietly and rather dejectedly. Pausing momentarily, Tom started up, So This woman She works at Sunnydale High? Yes Well at least Im quite sure she does. I never quite asked her. Hmm ok So if you went back there? I will ask for her. Willow replied almost immediately. And if shes there? Tom continued pleasantly. I will make sure we get together for lunch or something. Willow said firmly. Ahh I see. Ok Hmm Scratching his chin thoughtfully, Tom suddenly picked up the phone and dialed a number to Willows utmost bewilderment. <What in the world is Tom doing? Why is he making a phone call in the middle of our conversation? Hello? Willows still here Tom. Earth to Tommy.> Hello there Mr Moore, this is Tom speaking. Im just calling up to check whether itll be convenient to send one of my staff over to inspect the systems that we just fixed a couple days back? Just to make sure everythings in perfect working order. There was a slight pause before Tom continued, Thats great! Todays fine, Ill be sending someone round in a bit. Thank you Mr Moore, always a pleasure speaking with you. Bye. Watching realization sink in for Willow as he hung up the phone, Tom grinned cheekily as he saw a bright smile light up Willows face, Sorry Willow, I dont mean to be a pain. I know we were in the middle of a heart to heart conversation and all, but Ive got a couple of systems down at Sunnydale High that require inspection and I am afraid, you are most suited for the job. *** To be continued...
